The Ecodesign Ready label sets the standard for the most environmentally friendly stoves available today.
If you have been searching for a new stove lately you may be familiar with seeing the Ecodesign ready labels. Edodesign is a European wide programme to lower emissions.
Many stove manufacturers have already been producing stoves that meet the lower emissions limits for the past few years in readiness, particularly Stove Industry Alliance members who have been producing eco friendly stoves since 2017.
The Clean Air Strategy 2019
The UK government set out The Clean Air Strategy 2019, a plan of actions to reduce harmful emissions. One of these actions is that only the cleanest stoves are available for sale by 2022 and a ban on the sale of the most polluting fuels.

SIA Ecodesign Ready woodburning stoves and fireplaces are recommended by DEFRA in The Clean Air Strategy. Independent tests show that SIA Ecodesign Ready stoves produce 90% less particulate emissions than an open fire and 80% less than an stove that is 10 or more years old.
In order for a stove to be classed as Edodesign Ready it must be independently tested and shown that it achieves lower emissions across four tests that assess particulate matter (pm), organic gaseous compounds (OGC), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
More Cost Effective To Run
Ecodesign Ready stoves not only offer the benefit of lower emissions and cleaner air but also because they operate more efficiently they use less fuel thus making them more cost effective to run.
Look out for these labels to be sure you are buying an eco friendly stove.
